The best time to begin formal obedience training is 3 to 4 months. From 2-3 months it's important to get your puppy on a routine and begin your housebreaking process.
Group or Private Lessons: When you attend a group class the instructor is teaching techniques designed for the group. In private lessons my techniques are focused on the individual dog's ability to learn the proper responses to commands and requests.
In a group setting there are too many distractions for a puppy. Eye contact and attentiveness are the key principles for a dog to learn. After your group lesson you need to go home and train where there is a relaxed comfortable environment. Retaining the information and techniques is another drawback.
With my private lessons twice a week, I establish consistent training and I make sure the owner understands the exercises to practice. I also follow up each lesson with a written recap.
Please look over my website for additional information.
When ready please contact me for a consultation.
